Yaman Z. Shalabi – Associate Attorney, EOIR Division
Yaman Z. Shalabi recently joined Fayad Law, P.C. as an Associate Attorney in the EOIR Division, focusing on removal defense and humanitarian matters. Fluent in Arabic and shaped by her experience as a first-generation American and daughter of immigrants, she brings rigor, empathy, and cultural fluency to every case. Yaman earned her Juris Doctor, summa cum laude, from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School of Law. She served as Publications Editor for the UDC Law Review Journal and President of the Muslim Student Bar Association, receiving both the Incoming Merit Scholarship and Institutional Merit Scholarship for academic excellence and leadership. Her speaking work—including the Fourth Annual UDC Law Gala on access to justice and a presentation with the UDC Law Tax Clinic on the “Do’s and Don’ts When Claiming a Dependent”—reflects her ability to make complex rules practical. A skilled legal writer and mentor, Yaman also supported first- and second-year students as a Writing Mentor and Research Assistant, contributing to research on immigration and women’s rights and building workshops that strengthened students’ legal writing tools. That same precision and clarity now carry into her EOIR practice, where strong briefing, organized records, and credible testimony matter. Before joining the firm, Yaman completed a two-year judicial clerkship with the Honorable Lawrence V. Hill, Jr. at the Prince George’s County Circuit Court in Maryland. There she conducted legal research and drafted judicial opinions in civil and criminal matters—experience that sharpened her understanding of courtroom procedure and judicial decision-making, and that now informs how she frames issues and preserves the record in immigration court.
Yaman also gained federal immigration experience as a Legal Intern with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement/Office of the Principal Legal Advisor (OPLA), Immigration Law and Practice Division, where she assisted with appellate briefs and reviewed immigration decisions across multiple circuits. In addition to her legal training, Yaman brings years of strategic communications experience from a national nonprofit.
