Jake Weiss – Civil Litigation Attorney
Jake Weiss is a seasoned civil litigation attorney based in Fayad Law’s Richmond office, where he brings a strategic, business-focused mindset to every case. With a practice rooted in both trial advocacy and legal advisory, Jake has built a reputation for providing sound judgment, thoughtful counsel, and strong courtroom presence for businesses navigating complex disputes. His clients range from established corporations to emerging ventures, all of whom rely on his balanced approach to risk, litigation strategy, and long-term business goals.
Jake’s legal experience spans a wide range of civil litigation and appellate matters. He has represented clients in trials, arbitrations, and mediations involving contract disputes, corporate governance, creditors’ rights, and other high-stakes commercial matters. Beyond litigation, Jake also provides strategic counsel to entrepreneurs and small business owners on everything from entity formation and compliance to operational contracts and dispute avoidance—ensuring legal alignment with sustainable growth.
His legal philosophy reflects a client-centered approach: resolve what can be resolved; litigate what must be litigated; and always aim for results that align with the client’s bigger picture. This practical yet principled style has earned him trust among peers and clients alike.
Jake’s academic and professional background is as well-rounded as his practice. He received his undergraduate degree from Vassar College, a liberal arts institution known for producing thoughtful and articulate professionals. After college, he spent several years living in Argentina, where he taught English and traveled extensively across Latin America. This formative period deepened his appreciation for international culture and sharpened his Spanish fluency—skills that continue to serve him in an increasingly global legal environment.
Upon returning to the U.S., Jake earned his Juris Doctor from the University of Richmond School of Law, where he was elected Treasurer of the International Law Society. He later returned to Argentina to pursue a globally focused business education, completing an International MBA at IAE Business School in Buenos Aires. This unique blend of legal training and business education gives him a distinct advantage in counseling clients on both the legal and operational implications of their decisions.
Jake began his legal career as a term law clerk to the Honorable Paul M. Black, Chief Judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Virginia. There, he gained firsthand insight into the judiciary and honed his analytical approach to complex legal issues. He later joined a national law firm as a litigation associate, where he handled a broad array of commercial litigation matters in both state and federal courts.
Fluent in Spanish, Jake remains actively engaged in cross-border legal work and is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. He is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Virginia, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia, and the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for both districts.
With an eye for detail, a global perspective, and a steady hand in high-pressure situations, Jake Weiss continues to serve as a trusted legal advocate for business clients at every stage of growth and litigation.
